Facebook Exodus

An early faction lost faith in 2008, when Facebook’s beloved Scrabble application, Scrabulous, was pulled amid copyright issues. It was suddenly clear that Facebook was not just a social club but also an expanding force on the Web, beholden to corporate interests. A later group, Harmsen’s crowd, grew frustrated last winter when Facebook seemed to claim perpetual ownership of users’ contributions to the site. (Facebook later adjusted its membership contract, but it continues to integrate advertising, intellectual property and social life.) A third wave of dissenters appears to be bored with it, obscurely sore or just somehow creeped out.” –Virginia Heffernan, NYT
Pilot Pen 2009: Reidel Wine Tasting Event
Susan and I decided to forego the usual fried-food-and-beer aspect (though, for the record, it is just as fun) of the Pilot Pen Tournament and attend the Reidel Wine Tasting sponsored by Lux, Bond and Green. We wondered more than once if we would run into Patrick or Karen there, and sure enough:
Madeleines
I have been reading my good friend Jonathan’s new blog entries with interest, in particular those discussing what he has been cooking at home. Inspired, I thought I would talk a bit about my minor obsession with Madeleines.

The first is just funny, with the added bonus of classic Shatner. The second is probably the best summation of he “Birther” movement I have seen to date. Click to enjoy.
Twitter bumped, at least for now.
I have decided, for the time being, to dump the Twitter feed. Twitter has been having some ongoing issues from the DDoS attacks which tend to take down the rest of the site’s navigation.
I am also considering “divesting” my Twitter accounts into two separate, distinct “official” and “personal”, accounts, as well as the possibility of dumping Twitter altogether for privacy reasons. I realize such a statement regarding privacy might seem ridiculous for someone with two websites. We’ll see.
Other than that I’m having a good, if busy, summer. Susan and I planted the sunflowers depicted back in the Spring. She gets otherwise full credit for the bounty of coneflowers and rudbeckia we have right now. Enjoy.
Cheers, all!

I’ve haven’t looked in on this site in a long time, but here are some choice samples:
And They Always Get Drunk and Abrasive When We Go Clubbing
Greenpeace guy: Hey! Do you care about the environment?
Angry student: No.
Greenpeace guy: How about polar bears?
Angry student: No.
Greenpeace guy: Well, why not?
Angry student: They’re not tasty.

Oh, You’ll Pray for Cancer
Jewish woman: You bought the wrong kind of challah!
Jewish man: So what? It’s not the worst thing.
Jewish woman: Yes it is!
Jewish man: Is it worse than cancer?

Sinners Are Always More Sinful on the Other Side Of the Door
Crazy Jesus guy: Repent! Judgment is upon us, and we are all sinners!
Suit: Hey, there are some sinners in the next car.
Crazy Jesus guy: We indulge in things, and it’s a sin!
Suit: Some really bad sinners.
Crazy Jesus guy: Repent!
Suit: They’re just there in the next car.

Way to Clear That Up
Dan Quayle: It isn’t pollution that is hurting the environment, it’s the impurities in our air and water that are doing it.
